Tech & AI Propel Transformative Growth in Collin County

Rapid advancements in technology and a surging population position Collin County as a national economic powerhouse.

Collin County is experiencing unprecedented growth, driven by rapid advancements in technology and a surging population.

According to a recent study by the Texas Association of Business, the county's real gross domestic product (GDP) is projected to surpass that of several entire U.S. states by 2050.

This remarkable trajectory underscores Collin County's emergence as a pivotal economic force within Texas and the nation.

Key cities such as Frisco, McKinney, and Plano are at the forefront of this expansion.

Plano, in particular, hosts major corporations like Toyota, JPMorgan Chase, and Hewlett Packard, solidifying the county's status as a hub for business and technology.

The report highlights that from 2001 to 2023, Collin County's contribution to Texas's population growth increased from 2.5% to 3.9%, marking a 56% rise in its relative impact.

Projections indicate that by 2050, the county will account for 10% of Texas's total GDP, 7% of the state's workforce, and 6% of its population.

Notably, Collin County's GDP is expected to rival Missouri's 2024 GDP and be three times that of Oklahoma's 2024 GDP.

Glenn Hamer, President and CEO of the Texas Association of Business, emphasized the transformative role of technology in this growth.

He pointed to the proliferation of data centers and the increasing integration of artificial intelligence as key drivers of productivity and economic expansion.

Hamer also highlighted the critical need for a skilled workforce to support this technological boom, noting a premium on skilled labor across the state.

Recent data from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas supports these findings, showing a surge in AI adoption among Texas businesses.

The share of firms utilizing generative AI increased from 20% in April 2024 to 36% in May 2025, fueling growth in productivity and profitability.

As Collin County continues to attract residents and businesses, its role as a strategic driver of statewide economic momentum becomes increasingly evident.

The county's blend of technological innovation and population growth positions it as a model for economic development in the coming decades.
